The controls are the part of this product that most people do not expect. A 500W laser igniter with voice-activated functions is unusual. Here is what each one actually does for you.

Fan speed

The Beam Cannon MK-V runs a built-in cooling fan. Voice control over fan speed means you manage thermal load during extended use without pressing anything — useful when you have both hands on the grip.

Colorful lights

Decorative ambient lighting built into the unit. Switch it on by voice for display or nighttime atmosphere. It does not affect the laser function.

Flashlight

A utility light mode, also voice-activated. Practical when you need illumination at the same moment you are operating the unit.

Volume

Audio feedback level. Voice command adjusts it without putting the unit down.

Red laser / Green laser

Two separate beam colors, voice-switchable. Red and green have different visibility characteristics in different ambient light conditions — switching lets you use whichever reads better in your current environment.

The electrically adjustable lens

This is the part that separates the MK-V from fixed-optic laser devices. You can shift the beam focus and spread electrically, without touching the front of the unit or removing it from position. For nighttime display, that means you can widen or tighten the beam while it is in use.

Overheating protection is built in. The unit responds when it detects excessive heat. On a 500W device used for extended sessions, that matters — it is not a feature you will think about until you need it, and then you will be glad it is there.

Campfire ignition

The control system is the part I find most interesting. Six voice-controlled functions on a laser igniter is not something I had seen before. Getting the voice commands calibrated took a little time with the manual but once it was set up, switching between fan speed and beam color and the flashlight mode by voice is genuinely smooth. The numeric display on the unit is visible and I am curious what all the readings indicate — I have figured some of it out from the manual but not all of it. The grip and hand frame are better than I expected. You can hold this for an extended session without fatigue in the hand — the frame takes some of the weight load off your fingers.
